No More Excuses! It’s Time To Make Videos. by Jill CelesteDear entrepreneur, it’s time to push past your excuses. It’s time to make videos for your marketing!

If you’re like a lot of entrepreneurs, you would rather get a root canal than make a video, but trust me, making a video is a lot less painful.

Our Egos love to create excuses for not doing videos – not the right equipment, uncomfortable with public speaking, and on and on.

But remember, your Ego is a terrible marketing coach. Don’t take marketing advice from your Ego!

Instead, keep reading this marketing strategy. I’ll explain why you should embrace video marketing and help you bust through your video-making excuses.

We’re in this together, okay? Let’s get to it.

Your ideal clients don't want to see perfection. They want to see you. - Jill Celeste

Want to really connect with your community through marketing? Want to utilize one of the most effective digital marketing tactics? Want to get your ideal clients to know, like and trust you.

If yes, then it’s time to make videos!

Video marketing is not a fad; it’s one of the most effective forms of marketing out there. Take a look at these statistics from SmartInsights.com.

  • 53% of customers engage with a brand after watching a video on social media.
  • 93% of businesses say they have gotten a new customer because of a video posted on social media.
  • 72% of consumers prefer video over text when learning about a product or service.
  • Video accounts for about 78% of the world’s mobile traffic data.
  • Facebook says that users spend more than three times more time watching a Live video versus static content.

See why making videos is important to your marketing?

Now, let’s bust through the most common excuses I hear from my entrepreneurs about why they aren’t making videos. I bet some of these will resonate with you too.

Excuse #1: I don’t have the right equipment to make videos

Many entrepreneurs think they need a fancy video camera, light boxes, and wireless microphones to shoot high-quality videos.

Guess what? You can make high-quality videos with your smart phone or tablet!

Every week, I shoot a video for my weekly marketing strategy, and I use my MacBook with Quicktime to make my video. Before that, I used my iPhone and a $7 tripod I found on Amazon.

That’s it! The technology on our digital devices is good enough for the types of videos you need to make for your business. Simply put, you do not need fancy equipment.

Excuse #2: No one will watch it

That’s your Ego talking. Of course people will watch your videos! You can see from the stats above that videos are watched. Rest assured: If you make videos and upload them to social media, they will get watched.

Make sure to use a video title with keywords, include keywords in your video description and pick appropriate tags, especially when you upload to YouTube (this will help your ideal clients find you).

Excuse #3: I am not a good public speaker

If you are not confident about public speaking, the key is to practice, practice and practice some more.  You can practice in front of a mirror, or just shoot the video and erase it if you’re not happy with it.

Having an outline helps as well. Before I record my weekly strategy video, I write the accompanying blog post and then create an outline from it.  The outline is right in front of me when I record my video.

You can also research TelePrompter apps to download to your tablet.

Finally, make peace with the fact that you won’t be perfect. Especially as you start, you may stumble over your words, see a few “ums,” and forget to blink.  It’s okay! Practice will make perfect (or at least good enough).

Excuse #4: I look like crap on video

Aren’t we our own worst critics?

There are very few entrepreneurs who look like supermodels. And most supermodels benefit from Photoshop and airbrushing anyway.

Let me put it this way: I shot videos when I was 100 pounds overweight and with flaring adult acne. I have gray hairs and imperfectly shaped eyebrows.

If people don’t want to watch my videos or work with me because I am overweight or have a zit on my chin, then screw them. She is not my ideal client.

If I can do it, you can too.

No more excuses about your appearance. Stop worrying about having the “right” video equipment. Practice your way to public speaking confidence. Your community needs to hear from you. Just make the damn video, okay?

ABOUT JILL

Hi, I’m Jill Celeste. I teach purpose-driven entrepreneurs (just like you) everything you need to know about marketing so you can become the Director of Marketing for your business.

Because when you put your Director of Marketing hat squarely on your head, marketing is your number one priority (which will result in more clients!).

When I am not teaching about marketing, you’ll find me hanging out with my husband or my teenage boys, or taking a nap with my basset hound, Emma. I also like to play with my two kittens and feed the backyard ducks (much to my neighbor’s chagrin).

If you’re feeling alone in your entrepreneurial journey, I invite you to check out my monthly membership group, The Celestial Circle. Affordable, loving, supportive, informative, and fun – that’s how we roll in The Celestial Circle. We would love to welcome you!
