How I Take A Week Off Every Month

How I Take A Week Off Every Month by Jill CelesteI take a week off every month – sometimes even more than a week.

I talked about this a little while ago during a Facebook Live (see below), and I got additional questions from my community.

So, I thought it would serve you more if I delved a little deeper into this topic.

My hope is that you feel empowered to plan your schedule – the way you want it (not around how you think others want it).

This is the beauty of entrepreneurship, right? Having a flexible schedule may even be the reason you started a business.

Let’s embrace our entrepreneurial freedom and take the time we need to rejuvenate, create, and take care of ourselves. You are worth it!

BLOG:

In June 2019, I was feeling fatigue. Nothing crippling – but I knew something had to change with my schedule. I made a deliberate decision to plan my calendar differently, allowing me to have off once a month.

And not just a day or two – I knew I needed a week. I set the intention, and now there’s no going back!

Curious how to take a week off every month, too?

First, it starts with mindset, which then leads to planning. Here’s how I do it.

Your self-worth mindset

Most entrepreneurs who wish to have regular time off must overcome a few mindset blocks. See if any of these sound familiar:

  1. I can’t take time off every month because I won’t make as much money.
  2. I can’t take time off every month because I need availability for my clients to book time with me.
  3. If I block a week off, something will creep on to my calendar anyway (why bother!).
  4. I have too much work to do to take any time off.

These are not facts – these are mindset blocks – and they stem from self-worth issues.

You are worthy of controlling your calendar, when work with your clients, and the boundaries you set for yourself.

You see: You can block all the time in the world, but if you don’t believe you are worthy of that time, you won’t honor your time blocks.

Everyone has her own way to bust through a mindset block – from journaling to affirmations – so pick what works best with you. Please work on this, though, because having a positive mindset is the key to your overall success and happiness.

Plan your time off now

As you work on your mindset, it’s time to begin planning your time off.

Get out a calendar and block out your weeks off now. Do it for the next 6-12 months. Then, plan your work calendar around it.  Most of us try to squeeze time in around our work calendar. You really need to do the opposite – your work goes around your time off!

(Be sure to watch the video with this blog post to see my actual calendar.)

Be sure your blocked time off is reflected on your online calendar tool, Google Calendar, and whatever else you use to plan your work schedule. This makes it official!

Once you have the time blocked off, it’s sacred. Do not book over it. Even if a client wants to coach with you on that day, say “I am not available,” and offer another date. You don’t need to explain either.

Trust me: Once you get this sorted out, you will love having this time to yourself. I use my week off for self-care mostly, but I also create content and write. I am a better marketer and entrepreneur because of my week off.

I hope you’ll use this method to plan a monthly time off for you, too. It is a bold move, but it’s necessary one for your energy. I know you can do it!

ABOUT JILL

Hi, I’m Jill Celeste. I teach purpose-driven entrepreneurs (just like you) everything you need to know about marketing so you can become the Director of Marketing for your business.

Because when you put your Director of Marketing hat squarely on your head, marketing is your number one priority (which will result in more clients!).

When I am not teaching about marketing, you’ll find me hanging out with my husband or my teenage boys, or taking a nap with my basset hound, Emma. I also like to play with my two kittens and feed the backyard ducks (much to my neighbor’s chagrin).

If you’re feeling alone in your entrepreneurial journey, I invite you to check out my monthly membership group, The Celestial Circle. Affordable, loving, supportive, informative, and fun – that’s how we roll in The Celestial Circle. We would love to welcome you!
