It’s no secret that a growth and abundance mindset is essential for running a successful business. When you’re open to learning and reject the idea of scarcity, you set yourself up for a more fulfilling business journey.
I’m always on the lookout for ways to shift my mindset—it’s a continuous journey. Earlier this summer, a video by Mel Robbins offered a profound insight that has continued to impact me positively.
So what’s the message that has helped my mindset? Keep reading to find out!

BLOG POST:
In May 2024, I came across a short video by one of my role models, Mel Robbins, where she introduced the “Let Them Theory.”
Mel shared a powerful message: “So much time and energy is wasted on forcing other people to match your expectations. And the truth is, if somebody is not showing up as you need them to, do not force them to change. Let them be themselves.”
Embracing the Power of “Let Them”
Those two words—“let them”—have been a revelation for me. Here’s how this mindset shift has transformed my approach to business:
- If someone isn’t interested in joining Virtual Networkers, let them.
- If someone isn’t opening my newsletter, let them.
- If someone doesn’t want to attend the Sisterhood Soiree, let them.
Letting Go of Control
I am a control enthusiast, deeply passionate about my work. When these traits mix, they often lead to anxiety, self-doubt, and low confidence. I used to tie my self-worth to the actions of others and would beat myself up when things didn’t go as planned.
But here’s the reality: I have no control over others’ actions or decisions. I wanted that control, but I simply don’t have it.
The Revelation
When I heard Mel’s “let them” message, a light bulb went off in my head. This simple phrase interrupts the negative patterns in my mind, silencing the inner critic that tells me I’m not good enough, that nobody likes me, or that Virtual Networkers isn’t succeeding. It’s like giving myself a permission slip to release control, and it feels like a deep sigh of relief.
A Message for Fellow Entrepreneurs
I know many women entrepreneurs share my passion and control tendencies, which is why I wanted to share this insight. I hope the “Let Them Theory” benefits you as much as it has benefited me. Mel’s video—and later her podcast episode—has been a game changer, and I’m grateful for the shift it has brought to my mindset.
Let them, okay?
